Interesting NYTimes article

This is an interesting article pertaining to the presence and existence of a superintendent in their schools. I am curious to hear what those of you whom are already teaching have to say about your superintendent -- do you even know him/her? Do they seem to allow your principal full reigns and decision-making, or do you think that more freedom on the part of the principal would produce benefits?

Jen,

Your presentation was very interesting. I think that although many of us may have heard of the 100 dollar laptop concept, we didnt really know what it entailed. It was very interesting to learn that these were not just regular old laptops being handed out either. Im glad you included pictures to show us what they really looked like.

You did a good job with PP. Im glad you took on something you may not have known how to do before and worked with it.

Have a good break, and good luck next semester!!

I was really glad that you chose to research the OLPC issue as your final project. Like Jenn said, we've all heard about this concept but never really understood what was truly going on! To be honest I didn't even know that the U.S. was supplying these laptops...

The passion that you have for this subject is awesome; this very same passion made your presentation awesome. I'm impressed with how complete your presentation was despite the fact that the resources that you had all seemed to contradict themselves.

The PowerPoint that you created worked perfectly. I liked that you incorporated pictures of what the laptops would look like--the crank was great, haha.

Overall I think your presentation was great! I am very curious as to what will happen in the future. If you get time, it would be awesome if you could send me some of the links that you found (I know you had them on the works cited of the paper you handed out, but I was forced to run out after class and I left it behind...).

I hope you get to live your dream and travel to Africa before you become a teacher!

I'm in agreement - great work with your project. Your work with Powerpoint was very effective and well-supported by your notes. I was especially impressed by the way you presented both sides of the argument. From where our class sits, it's easy to see OLPC as a totally good idea. It's always interesting to hear the other side's view. I enjoyed seeing some of the incarnations of the $100-laptop, and I hope that despite it taking longer than originally projected, this project will come to fruition. Thanks for keeping us informed.
